Gisa Schicker, Zuchtrichter

Judge portrait Gisa Schicker:

Dogs have enriched my life from my early childhood. I grew up in a family where my grandparents were lovers of the German Spitz, while my parents always had Dachshunds. So it was a natural consequence, that I got my first Miniature Dachshund when I was only four years old.

My husband and I have bred Pepper and Salt Schnauzers and Miniature Schnauzers since 1973 and from 1982 to 1998 we exclusively bred black Giant Schnauzers under the affix "vom Bartenwetzer". We have bred or owned numerous national and international champions and winners. Over the years, many "Bartenwetzers" have passed their working trials. Several have possessed some of the most demanding working certificates. Additionally, the Swiss Army has successfully trained them to be rescue and avalanche dog.

Initially I was approved to judge Giant Schnauzers, Schnauzers, Miniature Schnauzers, Pinschers, Miniature Pinschers and Affenpinschers. After that I was qualified as specialist judge for many more breeds and in 2014 I successfully ended my judging training as All Breed judge for all breeds, all groups and BIS.

Further details you will find in the official VDH-Judges List.

My judging experience has covered International and National Shows and numerous Title Shows in almost all European countries as well as in New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Indonesia, China, Russia, Canada, Taiwan, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan and Brazil. Different European Winner Shows and Bundessieger Shows of the German Kennel Club have been very significant to me but perhaps the most memorable and prestigious judging appointments have been at the FCI World Winner Shows in Italy 2000 and in Germany 2003. It also may be of interest to learn, that I have judged Junior Handling at national and international levels many times.

I am co-author of a book on Giant Schnauzers and author of various articles on how to keep and breed dogs successfully.

For more than thirty years I have been involved in dog club administration in various roles for example in different functions in the German Pinscher-Schnauzer-Klub, such as breed warden. I am also involved in the VDH - Judges Training Scheme as a teaching judge for many breeds.

Twice I was invited by the Federacion Cinologica Argentina on behalf of "IX / XI Congreso de La Americas Y el Caribe Para Jueces, Aspirantes y Criadores" in Buenos Aires, where I lectured on different FCI – Breeds.
